As It Should

 

The oldest have all left now. Left for their homes and their states and their boyfriend and their girlfriend. And it's just the youngest home with Rick and me.

Chinese takeout ordered. Movie ready to play. 
And it is different. 
But it is good. 

Our kids grow up and go on. They go off.
As they should. 
As they want.
As we want.

Life can’t stay the same. Nor should it. 
We make the moments and we make the most of them— the minutes, hours, days and years. 
As we should. 

Soon 2022 will come to an end. An end to this year’s good and to its hard.
As it should.
As we want.

We wait for 2023 with open arms. 
Where there will surely be new good and new hard. 
New comings and new leavings.
New trials. New triumphs.

Like every year before.
And it is good. 
Good.
